Water Facts
- Like Canadice Lake, Hemlock Lake is used as a water reservoir for the City of Rochester. Therefore, there are no cottages on the shore, and certain activities are either banned (such as swimming) or restricted.
- The forests surrounding the southern end of the lake are classified as "old growth" forests. This means that they were not cut down by settlers and naturally re-grown, as in the case of the other lakes.
- The Eagle Crest Preserve is a nature conservancy found on the west side of the lake and is dedicated to protecting the old growth forests.
- The 415 acres of untouched hemlock, beech, sugar maple, and oak trees provide the ideal setting for hiking, bird watching, and fishing.
- Boats are limited to 17 feet in length and a maximum of 10HP engine power, which makes Hemlock Lake an ideal spot for canoeing, kayaking, and fishing.
- This is the only Finger Lake not named by Native Americans.
