CANANDAIGUA, NY – Smart phones provide consumers with the latest weather, driving directions and entertainment through rich multimedia. Now, smart phone users and visitors to the Finger Lakes will be able to get up-to-date information about tourism in the Finger Lakes with the new mobile web site.

Finger Lakes Visitors Connection developed the mobile site in cooperation with Dumbwaiter Design, a Rochester-based web design company. The new mobile site looks similar to the regular, but it is optimized for mobile users, and includes specialized features specific to the mobile traveler.

Similar to the regular Visitors Connection site, using the mobile version of will provide the traveler with information about where to stay, what to eat, what to do and event information. It is unique in its mobile friendly presentation and geolocational technology. If a visitor is in Canandaigua and looking for a place to stay, Canandaigua hotels and bed and breakfasts will appear first.

“This was a key feature to integrate into our mobile marketing. We know that people are looking for things to do and places to stay when they are on the ground and in our community,” said AJ Shear, Communications Manager for the Visitors Connection. “We want to give the visitor the tools to find places that are closest to them.”

In addition to the geolocational technology, the mobile site also has Top Ten Lists for quick ideas of things to do, easy access to the Visitors Connection’s social media platforms and a mobile texting campaign.

“Visitors can now opt in to receive texts from us featuring exclusive deals, events and getaway packages,” said Shear. “Because of mobile technology, we can now communicate with the customer like never before.”

Consumers can now access the mobile site by using a smart phone and going to or on a computer at
