November 17, 2014 (Hammondsport, NY) – Heron Hill Winery has released five unique, dry Rieslings from the 2013 vintage to exhibit the wondrous influence that growers and terroir can have on wine. Over the years Heron Hill Winery has developed close relationships with grape growers at select sites across the Finger Lakes. Heron Hill has bottled its own single vineyard designated Riesling for over twenty years under the Ingle Vineyard label. In addition to Riesling from Ingle Vineyard on Canandaigua Lake and Heron Hill’s Estate Vineyard on Keuka Lake, the Single Vineyard Series will also include a Riesling from Morris Vineyard on Seneca Lake, Patrician Verona Vineyard on Cayuga Lake, and Hobbit Hollow Farm on Skaneateles Lake.

“The concept of terroir can be difficult to grasp when you first start learning about wine,” said John Ingle, grape grower and Heron Hill Winery owner. “We wanted to create a side-by-side experience for people to taste and feel like they got it.”  At the beginning of the 2013 harvest, John Ingle and winemaker Bernard Cannac decided to test how five of their favorite Riesling lots would differ in profile if treated the same from crush through fermentation. Heron Hill staff then collectively tasted tank samples in the spring of 2014 and were intrigued by the remarkable differences and unanimously agreed this experience should be shared with others. The full collection of wines is exclusively available at Heron Hill Winery, as well as at each of Heron Hill’s two satellite tasting rooms -- one the west side of Canandaigua Lake and the other on the west side of Seneca Lake. Visitors will have the option to try the Single Vineyard Series as a separate, more in-depth tasting experience.

Individual bottles from the Single Vineyard Series will retail for $19.99. Curious wine drinkers are encouraged to host their own side-by-side wine tastings at home. A tasting pack of all five Riesling is also available to purchase at a discounted price and includes a booklet of individual vineyard information and technical notes. Anne Sheehan, an independent designer residing in Farmington, NY, created the graphics for the labels. The hand graphic on the label represents the Finger Lakes and is also a nod to the growers’ connection to the land.

Heron Hill has been committed to excellence in winemaking since 1977. Owners John & Josephine Ingle’s appreciation and fascination with Riesling has only continued to deepen since planting their first vines on the west side of Canandaigua Lake in 1972. Year after year, Heron Hill Winery situated on a slate hillside overlooking scenic Keuka Lake, produces multiple styles of acclaimed Riesling from dry and mineral-forward, to ethereal icewines.
