I had my list. Ten must-visit attractions. And six hours to see them.

Piece of cake, right?

It sure helps to know a local. My friend NYLaurie, who calls me AZLaurie, plotted an impressive route. Starting at Simply Crepes in Canandaigua, where three of us ordered three crepes and divided each into thirds, was a smart move!

Six ways to keep warm in the Finger Lakes

Tuesday, December 9, 2014 4:30 PM by David Lee

Brr… that’s right - it’s that time of year when you find every way possible to keep warm. As Nat King Cole puts it “Baby it’s cold outside.” So kick back and relax while enjoying your favorite glass of a warm Finger Lakes something. Maybe it’s a cup coffee from Finger Lakes Coffee Roasters or mulled wine from White Springs Winery.

Here are some more of my favorite Finger Lakes “goods” and tips to keep warm this winter!

Finger Lakes Visitors Connection is pleased to be a part of the 2014 Sonnenberg Tour of Homes. We hope that you’ll all get out to take advantage of this fundraiser and glimpse of Canandaigua – and its lifestyle.

The tourism bureau moved into 25 Gorham Street in August of 2003. See the picture at right.  We actually had one member of the team call it the "Chia Pet" house.

One year ago, November 5th, life changed for me.  I became one of those people - a grandmother.  Most of you probably already know this because, yes, I have taken all the liberties associated with my new position.  I have pictures on my smart phone, ready for anyone's viewing pleasure.  I have videos of a little tiny person who has simply found "the horn" on a little tractor, and for some reason that fascinates me to watch him blow that horn for longer than the average attention span on YouTube these days.  My mind occasionally devolves into thinking in rhymes and reminiscing about itsy-bitsy spiders.

A few weeks ago my wife asks me, “Let’s spend the day down in Naples and do something fun?”  I replied, “Sounds like a plan!” Having a 7 month old and in the midst of remodeling our kitchen - time poverty was high in the “Lee” household.

The next challenge, secure a babysitter. Success! We found a babysitter and had 4 hours to experience Naples! We know that isn't enough time but off we went. I planned a quick itinerary in my head that started us out in South Bristol and finished in the heart of Naples.  To my surprise, the majority of these upcoming stops my wife had never experienced before and that was about to change!

A Finger Lakes Adventure

Mi”chelle” is coming out of her shell!

I moved to the Finger Lakes area 22 years ago from the sunshine state of Arizona. And, since I grew up there, I had always considered it my home. The reason I have always felt Arizona was my home is I never took the time or the effort to go out and see what the Finger Lakes area truly had to offer me until I took my position here at the Finger Lakes Visitors Connection (“FLVC”).

A day at the Ontario County Fair

Insider's note: In honor of this year's Ontario County Fair, we're bringing back a blog about 2011's fair by Insider Laurie Adams. For more information about this year's fair which runs July 22 - 26, make sure to visit www.ontariocountyfair.org.

Where can you take your family for a few hours of fun and entertainment and only have to spend $5?

One place in the Finger Lakes is The Ontario County Fair in Canandaigua. For a $5 parking fee per vehicle, you enter the fairgrounds and never have to spend another cent unless you choose to. While the fair offers exhibits and many programs that are free to the public, very few of us can walk away from a country fair without spending a little more money to enjoy the other amenities the fair has to offer. But, I lured you with the tease that you don't have to spend more than $5, so first I'll explain how you can have a good time on so little money.  What can you do for free?
