For anyone staying home during the February school break, Ganondagan in Victor has LOTS to keep you—and your family—occupied and having fun!

As a lead-up to its ever-popular annual Native American Winter Games on Saturday, February 24, Ganondagan is hosting a Native American Winter Fun Week from 10am to 4pm Tuesday through Friday, February 20-23. There’s something different every day, and it’s all free with admission to the Seneca Art & Culture Center, except for the special “Furry Friends & Tales” workshop on Wednesday. Games and workshops take place at 11am and 2pm, and Make & Take activities at 10am and 3pm. Daily “Trade Game” is at 1 pm. Some activities have age requirements, so be sure and check details online.

The sandwich is a timeless classic with seemingly infinite arrangements. To craft the perfect sandwich is unto itself an art, so much so that those who craft them have been affectionately dubbed sandwich artists (just ask Subway)! In Ontario County’s Finger Lakes, we have sandwiches to rival our fiercest competitors, no matter how stacked the competition is. I love sandwiches, and our area has some of the best. Here are a few of my faves!

To say Ontario County Historical Society Museum is a treasure is an understatement. I recently took a behind-the-scenes tour of the museum, and I learned that it’s truly a treasure trove of amazing wonders and precious gems! Everywhere you look, there’s something new and amazing—and each piece is truly cared for and carefully documented by Museum Executive Director Ed Varno and his staff. “We hold and keep the county’s antiquity,” he told me.

Indoor Ice Skating Rinks in the Finger Lakes

Baby, it's cold outside. So, make the most of this winter by lacing up your skates and visiting these fun family spots for indoor skating! As much as we love ice skating outside, sometimes it's just too cold to be outdoors. The Geneva Recreation Complex and the Greater Canandaigua Civic Center both offer indoor public skating all winter long. Take advantage of the variety of times these fantastic, economical rinks offer adult and kids.

Happy holidays. I do hope your Christmas and holiday preparations are going well. I love the Finger Lakes any season of the year—but I especially enjoy them around the holidays. And if you’re still looking for something to put you in a festive mood, there’s plenty of holiday cheer to be had this season! Here are a few

Autumn is drawing to a close. Most of the leaves have fallen, along with the temperatures, though there are the stubborn few still clinging to their branches, unwilling to move on to winter. Here in Ontario County in the Finger Lakes, the first snow has come and gone. But before we move on to winter, there's still more to celebrate this fall.

It’s November! Believe it or not, that means Christmas is rapidly approaching, and so is the shopping season! And with Small Business Saturday – a day to celebrate and support small businesses and all they do for their communities – right around the corner, I thought I would share some of my favorite local gifts you can buy, right here in Ontario County. Most are available all year long, but if you want to take advantage of Small Business Saturday, head out on Saturday, November 25, for this year’s national day of small-town celebration!

November 17 is National Take a Hike Day! I plan on taking advantage of this fantastic day by going for a hike with my faithful companion, Shadow. No matter the weather or your preferred activity, Ontario County’s Finger Lakes offers plenty of ways to experience the great outdoors!
