If you haven’t taken to the trees and explored the canopy at Bristol Mountain Aerial Adventures you are missing out. The Finger Lakes is a premiere outdoor recreation destination. Hands down it’s the best health club with a view. Thanks, Mother Nature!

The Aerial Park boasts seven challenging courses, two kids courses, 125-plus elements (elements are the fun stuff!) and (wow!) 5,000 feet of zip line.

The Finger Lakes Are for the Dogs!

The Finger Lakes Are for the Dogs!

When visiting the Finger Lakes, be sure to bring your fun loving, four-legged friend(s) along with you! The Finger Lakes Region was ranked #7 in the nation on the list of Top 15 Spring Break ideas for you and your dog on the I Love Dogs website. Don’t let the reference to Spring fool you or make you wait for Spring! Bring Fido along for the Finger Lakes fun, whether it is winter, spring, summer or fall.

With summer in full swing, the beautiful weather in the Finger Lakes has me dreaming of experiencing this area in a completely fresh way. Not by foot, not by car but by my favorite two-wheeled machine: the bike. I've set a new goal and, perhaps you'll join me.

I want to bike around all 11 Finger Lakes. Will I do them all by the end of the summer?

You know how they say that you can’t judge a book by its cover? Valerie Calkins is the first to admit that the same could be said of the Miami Motel, the Canandaigua motor lodge she owns with her husband, Dennis.

Built in 1952, the Miami Resort Motel (the property’s original name) was the pinnacle of convenience, comfort and affordability for people traveling by car. It’s no coincidence that the New York State Thruway opened two years later.

The original owner opened the Miami with only 10 rooms. A few years later an upstairs addition was built, with plans to make it a restaurant, and rooftop patios were added for sunbathers.

A Snowy Day - a Facebook Snow Show

Our son called us from Atlanta. The temperature there – about 55 degrees.  He’d heard we were getting some snow, so he was checking in and being a true New Yorker, “wished he was here because he missed the snow.”  It’s always fun to be in town when a record is set. February 16, 2016. 17.9 inches of snow! This gives all of us "FLX - Finger Lakes" folks certain bragging rights. And, show off we did. I asked my son how he knew about our snow and he simply said, “all the Facebook posts.”

Robert F. Kennedy skied here!

Famous people past and present have visited the Finger Lakes or even called the region home.

Our previous Insiders Blog explained the late great movie star Humphrey Bogart's connection to the Finger Lakes. (His family had a summer house on Canandaigua Lake.)

Former President Bill Clinton and his wannabe president wife, Hillary Rodham Clinton, have been to Skaneateles more than once. Actress Anne Hathaway has been rumored to have toured wineries on Keuka Lake.

The inspiration for this post came from an email we received from a potential visitor to the Finger Lakes. It was one of the more unique emails we have seen in our inbox and it ended up sending a few of us here in the office on a mission to find the answers.

The sender began by disclosing how much of a fan he is of the actor Humphrey Bogart and that he was having trouble finding some information on his past.

1,000 points of light? Try 100,000!

When I was a kid, my parents would drive my sisters and me around town on Christmas Eve so we could ooh and aaah all the great holiday lights and decorations.

Given my eagerness to get to bed early to ensure Santa's arrival, I didn’t always appreciate the long detours Dad would take as he drove the car through neighborhoods sparkling with house and lawn displays that included snowmen, nativity scenes, and blazing rooftop reindeer.

Now that I know that Santa works on flex-time, I’m not as worried about getting to bed early. I still like to drive around and see how the outdoor halls are decked. Here are some standout destinations in Ontario County for those of you who share my fascination with holiday displays.

All people of the world share the same sun, but in New York’s Finger Lakes we were blessed with a special treat of “Sunset Spectacular” a few nights ago.

Less than five minutes later my sister posted the sunset view from her home in Gorham - different than my pinks, purples and blues.

Captured at the same time, her sunset was made of oranges and golds with a barn backdrop and a window teasing the sunset to come in. I was deep into some kitchen event when my husband alerted me to the beautiful sky out our western window.
