Attention Finger Lakes Christmas Fans: If this were in New York City - the lines to get in this show would be out the door! That’s how I feel about the “Scrooge” performance of Canandaigua’s Kim Tenreiro in “A Christmas Carol”.
Admittedly, I’m a big Scrooge fan and own every version of the movie! And, I’m also a big Kim fan – we get to exercise together every weekday morning at 5:20 a.m. I can attest to his energy level and his commitment to contributing to the community. I went to the performance last year at the Bristol Valley Theatre in Naples and vowed to make this one-person dramatization one of my holiday traditions. It has everything a holiday tradition should have: heart, fun, a message, people-time, and well – roots.
I’m impressed.

Lines of text? Can you imagine memorizing the entire script of a full-length play? I can’t. I’m not even very good at remembering my grocery list!
2.5 hours flying by.
And, I’m impressed because the performance is free if you choose. But, my suggestion is don’t choose “free.” Instead, extend Kim’s generous donation of his skills and talents. Donations are encouraged and cheerfully accepted because any money received will be awarded to local not-for-profit organizations and community charities; extend the message of Scrooge and give back to the community that rewards us year round!
This is a time when hearing different voices in your head is a good thing. Twenty-five characters from Charles Dickens’ famous story are brought to life through Kim’s voices. I love the idea that the types of charities it supports are those needs that connected to themes highlighted in the novel: hunger, upper class opening their doors to the needy, and education. Why not get into the true “spirit” of the holiday by attending a performance and helping a charity at the same time?
