Every September, over 1,200 athletes from across the country and Canada gather on the shores of beautiful Canandaigua Lake to compete in the Finger Lakes Triathlon. Cheering them on is crowd of over 2,000 family members, friends, volunteers and community members. This is a premier event in the world of competitive triathlon – one of the largest in Upstate NY. The race course consists of an Olympic and Sprint distance for individuals or teams so that athletes of all abilities can take part. We also hold a Kid’s Triathlon designed for 6-15 year olds. 2017 will mark our 15 year anniversary of putting on this awesome event. We are one of the longest standing triathlons in the region!
The Finger Lakes Triathlon is the biggest annual fundraiser for the Mary M. Gooley Hemophilia Center. The Center has been treating adults and children affected by bleeding disorders in the region for over 50 years and is a recognized national leader in the field. In 2003 we decided to have a triathlon be our biggest annual fundraiser. This choice was made because of how critical it is for people with hemophilia to find ways to live active healthy lives. Being fit helps to mitigate the effects of the condition and this is extremely important to instill in our child patients early on. We also thought it would be a great way to bring this message of health and fitness to the whole community. Every year we strive to put on a well-organized, fun and competitive race for athletes of all abilities to enjoy.
