This series will be focused on the wines right in our back yard. Each class we will dive into one of the 4 most popular wine producing Finger Lakes including, Canandaigua, Seneca, Cayuga, and Keuka. The final class will be a field trip out to the vineyards we have been learning about along the way.
Join us for an in-depth look at Seneca “Place of Stone” Lake! Seneca Lake’s natural combination of deep water, at 632 feet it is the deepest of the Finger Lakes, and sloping hillsides provides the ideal mesoclimate for grape growing. Its unique geology and topography protects the growth of hardy native grapes and premium hybrids as well as more delicate varieties such as Riesling, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, and Pinot Noir. We’ll discuss the rich history of this area, the people who pioneered the NYS wine industry, and where Seneca Lake is today. Eight wines and a local cheese plate will be served.
