Fun in the Finger Lakes |

I'm wondering from the back seat of the
car why this drive is taking so long. Mom and Dad seem so
excited about "going to the lake". They're busy talking about
when they were kids and the things they used to do at the
lake. Campfires, marshmallow roasts, and skipping stones.
"How can that be fun," I think to myself as I bury my nose
in my PSP? Finally, the car ride is over. It's a family reunion
and Mom says I have to leave the PSP in the car. "We're going
to have some quality family time," she says.
My uncle and aunt are staying at the
hotel
on Seneca Lake. My other cousins are at the campground.
I can't believe our room
… right next to Canandaigua Lake and the golf course! Every
day there is a plan for something else to do. We started out
with a boat
tour on the lake. Then, the kids all went to the campground,
we went fishing and played games while the parents had this
huge limo come and take them on a winery
tour! If they think that is fun – that's o.k. with me.
I'm enjoying skipping stones in the creek.
Tomorrow is the downtown festival. Mom and Aunt Julie want to visit every booth and see if they can find a souvenir for the people at work. Dad doesn't seem quite as excited about shopping – he's talking to Grandpa about the new wine and culinary center in Canandaigua – and how much easier it is to find locally grown foods than it used to be! I wonder about the marshmallows, the graham crackers, and the chocolate bars. If I put it together myself and roast it – does that make it locally grown?
I can't wait until Wednesday. We're going to an Alpaca Farm, Grimes Glen hiking, and to a place where we can pick our own apples or strawberries or something. As long as we're outside, I guess it'll be o.k. "Oh no," I think, "that's our last day here."
There's too much to do – and I've got to swim in the lake one more time too!
We're back in the car – waving goodbye to my cousins and my new friends at the lake. I see my PSP on the seat. You know what, I didn't even miss it – and I can't wait until next year when we'll come back to the Finger Lakes again!
