Master potter Jim Kozlowski has been working his magic with clay for over 40 years at his
Wizard of Clay pottery workshop, located at 7851 Route 20A in the town of Bristol. Son Jamie joined his father at the ”wheel” about 10 years ago. In the tradition of ancient potters, the Kozlowskis work on more than 100,000 pounds of clay each year, creating products which include vases, dinnerware, cooking pots, mugs, lamps and many whimsical items which are both utilitarian and beautiful.
The Wizard of Clay pottery production workshop and retail outlet store are housed in a complex of geodesic domes in the Bristol Hills, which are inspiration to many of their decorative pieces. The Bristoleaf® pieces are decorated with delicate imprints from leaves picked daily during the summer from the trees in the surrounding Bristol Hills. When the piece is fired in the kiln the leaves burn off, leaving the appearance of fossilized imprints on the finished product.
The Crystalline Glaze Pottery, utilizing a technique developed by Jamie Kozlowski, has added a new dimension to the artistry of the Wizard of Clay product line. The glaze when fired in the kiln forms crystals creating a surface that seems to shimmer. It is the unique beauty of these pieces that caught the attention of Carol Duvall of HGTV.
The Wizard of Clay workshop and store is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm. For more information, visit
