Top 10 Rainy Day Activities in the Finger Lakes
In case you forgot your galoshes, or you've had your fill splashing in puddles, here are some of our top picks for how to spend time on a rainy day!
#1. Taste New York
Why not get a taste of New York all in one place on your day inside? Head to the New York Wine & Culinary Center to check out the hands-on cooking classes, become a foodie during a wine and food pairing session, taste local wines in the tasting room, shop local at the gift shop, and indulge in local cuisine at the Upstairs Bistro!
#2. Find the mug/bowl/dish with your name on it
The Wizard of Clay in Bloomfield is home to three generations of potters, who are busy throwing between 60,000-80,000 pounds of clay per year! Take home a one-of-a-kind Bristol Leaf® piece of pottery – imprinted with local leaves and finished with the Wizard’s touch.
#3. Find brightness inside!
Bright colors on a canvas can help you forget dark clouds outside – on this rainy day, find that brightness at an art gallery! Stroll down Main Street in Canandaigua to visit the Pat Rini Rohrer Gallery and Finger Lakes Gallery and Frame, head down to the village of Naples to check out a slew of local artisan works at Artizanns, or check out Main Street Arts in Clifton Springs!
#5. Are you feeling lucky?
Finger Lakes Gaming & Racetrack is a great place to win big on a rainy day (assuming you're on a lucky roll)! Take your chance on your choice of nearly 1,200 slot machines, follow simulcast racing from the country’s top tracks, and enjoy your breaks at the Vineyard Buffet, the Platinum Grille, or one of several other great dining options. A win-win!
#6. Shop for a really cool raincoat
Maybe you need something rugged that will see you through camping and hiking. The Outdoor Store in Bloomfield could be the place to find it. For something more fashion-forward, consider The Country Ewe for women and Dick Anthony for men. Both shops are in downtown Canandaigua, and if that's not enough, follow it up by accessorizing at Adorn Jewelry and Accessories. There's plenty more just waiting for you to discover.
#7. Treat yourself to a day at the spa
#8 Go on a treasure hunt!
The great thing about antiquing? You can discover treasure upon treasure, and stay dry while you do it! From the amateur to the professional, everyone is bound to find something they love among the various antique shops and galleries in Ontario County.
#9. Embrace the rain
You’re already wet… so why not embrace the rain? Head to Grimes Glen Park in Naples for a refreshing hike through the waterfalls (caution: the rocks get slippery!); splash around at the sprayground at Seneca Lake State Park in Geneva, or catch your thrills on a waterslide at Roseland Waterpark in Canandaigua! Just be sure to call it a day if you see any lightning.
#10. Cozy up with a warm drink
One of our favorites? Finger Lakes Gifts & Lounge in Geneva. Grab a ‘cuppa’ local coffee or juice, and pair it with local cheeses, breads, ice cream, and more! The best part? You can browse all kinds of locally made products from jewelry to wood carved items, all while you stay dry and warm up!
