It could be a classic or independent movie. Or maybe a symphony orchestra concert or ballet. Perhaps a world-renowned rock band, or an acoustic duo you've never heard of but will be glad you did. It's always a surprise at The Smith, a Geneva landmark since 1894. The Smith Club Series spotlights indie musicians in more intimate settings, from wineries to dinner clubs.
Lights and music on a midsummer’s eve make for a glorious garden experience at Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion State Historic Park. During this special summer series, the grounds come alive as musical artists perform a concert in the gardens. While watching the show, enjoy light refreshments and a glass of wine from the Finger Lakes Wine Center.
World-class theater in a small town? You bet! For those cool summer evenings, head to Bristol Valley Theater in Naples for drama, comedy, romance, musical, and more. Equity actors grace this Finger Lakes stage to provide high quality, professional theater just like you’d find off-Broadway.
#4. Happy hour and more at the wineries and breweries
A day at a favorite winery or brewery could also turn into an evening of great food, drink and entertainment. A few tasty examples: Pizza on the Patio is a sell-out summer dinner event at Billsbory Winery, while Hoppy Hour Thursdays at Nedloh Brewing Co. free appetizers and a free and easy atmosphere.
Watch the sunset and enjoy dinner on the Canandaigua Lady, a 19th-century replica of a double-decker paddlewheel boat that cruises along Canandaigua Lake. The "Lady" is a proud successor to locally famous steamboats that operated on the Finger Lakes between 1820 and 1930.
#6. CMAC concert
Bring a blanket and spend a night under the stars (or reserve a cover seat) at this open-air seasonal performing arts center, renowned for bringing in the best in county, rock, classical, and indie. Past acts include Santana, Kenny Chesney, Kesha, Boz Scaggs, and Megadeth.
The thrill of the downhill gets even more exciting when you ski it at night. Nearly all of Bristol's slopes have trail lighting. Family night deals make this a great activity for families, though we think couples will also find it a most romantic way to spend an evening.
#8. Geneva Night Out
On the first Friday evening of each month, downtown Geneva is transformed into an open house of art and culture. See new art, listen to new music and meet the movers and shakers of this up-and-coming community.
Watch and bet on live thoroughbred horse racing, which takes place spring through fall at this racetrack and racino. Live music and special events at Remedy Bar are also worth the trip. It could be your lucky day!
Watch the boats on Canandaigua Lake or savor a sunset at this waterfront seasonal bar and eatery. Live music takes place several nights a week. If you come by boat, there's a dock waiting for you.
