Niagara Falls And Buffalo

Just a little less than two hour's drive from Ontario County in the Finger Lakes, you can see Niagara Falls, one of the 7-wonders of the world, lick your lips as you savor the flavor of Buffalo's Chicken Wings , experience one of the most significant collections of modern and contemporary art at the Albright-Knox Gallery, attend a Buffalo Bills game, or tour the architectural achievements of Frank Lloyd Wright.

Niagara Falls has jaw-dropping scenic beauty. You'll see and hear thundering roars, mind-boggling shimmering rainbows, and the raw power of 4-6 million cubic feet of water rushing over the edges every minute of the day. Comprised of the American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, and Horseshoe Falls, Niagara Falls is a true natural wonder that plays Cupid to lovers, a muse to artists and a once in a lifetime experience to millions of visitors each year.

You haven’t had a chicken wing until you’ve tasted a Buffalo wing! When you walk into Anchor Bar, you’re essentially walking into Buffalo’s Chicken Wing Museum. This is where the chicken wing reportedly started thanks to a combination of leftover chicken, hot sauce, and a group of kids who wanted some late night eats. It’s been over 50 years since Teressa Bellissimo created the “Buffalo wing” but this downtown restaurant and bar hasn’t stopped making them since.  The best pairing with a Buffalo wing might just be a Buffalo Bills game – become an honorary member of #BillsMafia for the day!

The jewel in the crown of Buffalo’s vibrant and varied art scene is the magnificent Albright-Knox Gallery, one of the oldest art institutions in the country. The Albright is renowned as the home of one of the most significant collections of modern and contemporary art in North America and includes names like Picasso, Van Gogh, Cezanne, Matisse, Gauguin, Pollock, Warhol, and other luminaries far too numerous to mention. It’s a must-see destination for even a casual art lover.

If you’re an architecture and design fan, there are few cities more abundant in historical richness and importance than Buffalo. From a sprawling city-wide park system designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux, to exemplary works by architects like Louis Sullivan, Frank Lloyd Wright, and H. H. Richardson, the city is a veritable jewel box of inspiring architectural sights and history. Just a quick jaunt from the Burchfield Penney is another must-see for any architecture fan - Frank Lloyd Wright’s Martin House. One of the crowning achievements of Wright’s Career, this three-building complex (furnished with Wright’s own designs!) is an indispensable look into the architect’s process, esthetic, and mid-career work. It’s one of over a half-dozen Wright designs in greater Buffalo, including the Graycliff estate, Frank Lloyd Wright Filling Station, and Blue Sky Mausoleum.

Looking for some extra fun and brand new? Check out the National Museum of Comedy in Jamestown, NY - hometown of Lucille Ball. Near Jamestown as well is the famous Chautauqua area of New York State known for its cultural offerings.
