Top 10 Favorite Places to Enjoy Wine
We polled our tourism team and asked what kind of wine experiences they thought our visitors should not miss while in the area. Here's the countdown. We'll admit, it was hard to narrow it to 10, but, we did our best!
#1. This name speaks for itself.
The New York Wine & Culinary Center is a “must-stop” for wine enthusiasts. The tasting room offers superior wine, beer and spirits not just from the Finger Lakes but from all regions of New York State. The knowledgeable staff will guide you through your tasting where you’ll learn about winemaking, wine styles and wine-producing regions, beer styles and flavors and about distilled spirits.
#2. Love, Peace, Serendipity, Harmony.
If John Lennon came back to life and wanted to hang out in the Finger Lakes, he'd get a warm welcome at Inspire Moore. Tim and Diane Moore bring more than 15 years of winemaking and grape-growing experience in the Finger Lakes to Inspire Moore Winery The winery provides a special, laid-back experience where you’ll try exceptional wines like Inspire Moore Love and Inspire Moore Peace! Ask about their vertical tastings from the three lakes. They pride themselves on sustainable practices and are one of the greenest wineries in the Finger Lakes.
#3. 100 year old barn and under a gazebo.
Heron Hill offers nearly 20 wine varieties from crisp and light Rieslings to the winery’s legendary Eclipse series of wines. For more than 30 years Heron Hill has been at the forefront of Finger Lakes winemaking. Their tasting room in Bristol, just south of Canandaigua, is housed in a renovated 100-year-old barn overlooking vineyards of Cabernet Franc and Riesling grapes.
#4. Flights of fancy
Microclimate offers patrons the chance to taste flights of wines from around the world, including the Finger Lakes, grouped by varietal. In addition to the tastings, you can order wine by the bottle or glass, bottled beer and small plates filled with local cheeses, meats and breads. Microclimate, with its original brickwork and re-purposed timbers, is located on Geneva's popular Linden Street, an up-and-coming nightlife destination.

Finger Lakes Wine Center, Canandaigua
The Finger Lakes Wine Center offers one of the more unique experiences in the Finger Lakes due to its unique setting at Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion State Historic Park. Before or after a wine tasting, visitors can tour the 40-room Queen Anne-style mansion and stroll through the nine formal gardens on the property. #6. Overlooking the waterfalls and in an old mill
Water Side Wine Bar, Phelps
Overlooking Flint Creek waterfalls, the Waterside Wine Bar in the historic Old Mill building is where the locals go to savor wine, beer and gourmet bar nibbles, from crab cakes to fish tacos. Enjoy the falls on the patio in nice weather, or sit around the cozy fireplace when it grows cooler. There's live music a couple nights a week.
#7. Wood fired and rustic.
Billsboro Winery, Geneva
Nothing says summer in the Finger Lakes like Pizza on the Patio at Billsboro Winery. The popular dinner series involves local chefs cooking pizzas in an outdoor wood-fired oven while guests enjoy the patio view of Seneca Lake through a grove of centuries-old walnut trees. There's plenty of delicious Billsboro wine to wash it down, and live music on the side. If it rains, the dinner goes inside Billsboro's rustic red barn tasting room. Reserve your spot early. These dinners sell out quickly.
#8. The mall experience turns tasty!
If a supermarket isn't a crazy enough place to sample wines, Eastview Mall has a satellite tasting room and gift store for Three Brothers Wineries & Estates. The shop features the most popular elements of the estate winery, located near Geneva. Take a break from shopping and taste Three Brothers' award-winning wines, beers and hard ciders.
#9. Supermarket sipping? Why not!
Wegmans Food Market, Canandaigua
Our award-winning grocery chain serves wine and beer in its Market Café department, where you can pair it with sushi, pizza, sandwiches, the salad and buffet line or mouthwatering burgers. Enjoy your meal or appetizer inside or if the weather is nice, on the patio.
#. 10 Four Diamond - World Class Setting
Geneva On The Lake, Geneva
Whether you are an overnight guest at Geneva on the Lake or not, the resort's Lancellotti Dining Room is one of the best places to enjoy local wine in all of the Finger Lakes. The dining room features marble columns, 17th century side chairs, wall tapestries and Chinese vases that glow in the warmth of candlelight. The restaurant’s wine list has plenty of Finger Lakes wines to pair with dishes full of Finger Lakes ingredients.

We just had to mention one more idea. Try a wine walk - like the Canandaigua Wine Walk. You just pay a few dollars for your souvenir glass and then you walk from store to store on Canandaigua's historic Main Street. You never know from week to week which store has the wine or which wine they are going to be featuring, so every event is a new tasting experience.
