For the Love of Chocolate and History
The Ontario County Historical Society and Sweet Expressions will be presenting For the Love of Chocolate...and History, a fundraising event on Friday, February 6 at 7 pm. All are welcome to come and enjoy an evening of tastings, pairings and a historical presentation centered around the theme of chocolate. A wide assortment of chocolates will be provided by Sweet Expressions for guests to taste and pair with locally made beer from Brew & Brats and wine from Arbor Hill Winery.
Ontario County Historian Preston Piece will give a presentation about the history of chocolate and confections in Canandaigua dating back to the first chocolate shop in 1907 and how several chocolatiers and candy makers thrived in Canandaigua after 1900. "We're building an educational event around the sweet success of our candy-makers, craft brewers, and wine makers over the past century. And we're doing it around Valentine's Day. It's a natural pairing of sweet fun and history", remarks Pierce.
Denise Chaapel, owner of Sweet Expressions, will be discussing the process of making milk, white and dark chocolate plus more specialty chocolates such as sponge candy. "It is a thrill and privilege to support the Historical Society in their mission to educate the community about our local history and to continue providing Canandaigua with the sweets they've grown up loving and accustomed to enjoying", comments Chaapel. Sweet Expressions will be sampling over 25 different kinds of chocolates and sweets including unique items such as chocolate with cayenne pepper, chocolate covered bacon and chocolate dipped fruit.
The event will be hosted at Finger Lakes Gallery & Frame located at 175 South Main Street in Downtown Canandaigua. Tickets are available at the Ontario County Historical Society and at Sweet Expressions. The cost of the event is $25 per person or $40 per couple. Proceeds from the event benefits the educational programming of the Ontario County Historical Society.
