Victor, NY—On Saturday, June 30 at 9:00 am, the trails at Ganondagan State Historic Site in Victor offer cross country runners a highly challenging race all for a good cause. “Charlie’s Old Goat Run”—a demanding seven-mile trail race—is organized by 79-year old Victor resident, former marathoner, and “old goat” Charles Sabatine, with proceeds going to the non-profit Friends of Ganondagan.
The race features hills, streams, rocky outcroppings, slippery mud boardwalks, forests, and lush meadows. No roads are included, and trail shoes are highly recommended. The race begins and ends at Boughton Hill Rd. at Ganondagan (1488 State Rte 444). Registration is $18 by June 23, and $25 after, including on-site at 8:00 am on race morning. Prizes will be awarded for the top male and female runners, with random drawings including a chance to win running shoes at Tri Running & Walking in Victor. The first 100 entrants will receive Hi Tech t-shirts. Post-race fare will be donated by local merchants.
For complete information including a required downloadable waiver, and for advanced registration, visit www.ganondagan.org/programs/OldGoatRun.html or call 585-742-1690. Signed waivers may be mailed in advance or submitted on race day. Race packet pick-up is available on Friday, June 29 at Tri-Running in Victor from 3-6 pm, or on-site race morning.
This is the third year that the race will benefit the Friends of Ganondagan, which grossed more than $1500 last year from approximately 100 runners. Sabatine has been organizing race fundraisers for more than two decades with various groups as beneficiaries. This year’s sponsors include Tri Running & Walking, Austin-Spencer Collision, Met Life, Advent Auto, Van Bortel car dealership, Biaggi’s restaurant and Tim Hortons in Victor, with additional support by MEDVED and Fleet Feet.
