In 12 Years a Slave, Solomon Northup recounts his experience as a free man who is kidnapped as an adult and sold into slavery. 12 Years a Slave is one of the longest and most detailed slave narratives written. Sulfur Books has new and used copies of 12 Years a Slave for sale.

On Saturday, February 22nd, among other topics, discuss why the slave narrative is important in terms of perspective, voice, three-dimensionality, inciting pathos during its time, and the context in which you read it in the 21st century. Meeting time is 10 a.m.

Then on Wednesday, February 26th, watch a screening of the critically acclaimed film adaptation at Main Street Arts. Screening begins at 6:30 p.m.

Light refreshments will be offered at both the book discussion and the film viewing.
