From the first performance in 2013, Finger Lakes Opera (FLO) has consistently produced shows of superlative quality. From 2013-2016, the company performed on the campus of SUNY Geneseo under the umbrella of the state college. When the college discontinued the partnership, FLO not only moved its primary performance site but also secured 501 (c)(3) status to continue operating as a non-profit organization.
Now entering its 8th performance season (and 4th as a non-profit), FLO’s main course of offerings comes during mid-July through mid-August featuring an opera festival in the heart of the Finger Lakes, where outstanding singers, designers and directors come together to create bold new productions of operatic masterpieces resplendent with spectacular sets, dazzling costumes, inventive staging, all accompanied by a professional orchestra. In addition to enriching the cultural lives of the Finger Lakes residents, FLO believes its month-long residency enlivens the local community by the artists and technical staff brought in and housed for the month and 1500-2000 audience members who attend performances each summer. In addition to the month-long summer season, FLO recently has begun offering programs throughout the calendar year to address part of its mission to bring more opera to more people.
