CANANDAIGUA, New York (March 8, 2020) – The second day of competition for the Freestyle Aerials FIS NorAm Tour at Bristol Mountain has concluded. Miha Fontaine (Canada) was the men’s winner for the second day performing a back double full for a score of 103.74. Fontaine was also named the overall 2020 FIS NorAm Tour winner, which means that next season he will have guaranteed personal FIS World Cup starts. Alexandre Duchaine (Canada) was the second place finisher with a score of 93.06 and Nicolas Martineau (Canada) was the third place finisher with a score of 91.65.

Marion Thenault was the ladies winner for the second day as well performing a back lay full for a score of 78.88. In addition, Thenault was named the overall 2020 FIS NorAm Tour winner, which guarantees her personal starts on next seasons FIS World Cup tour. Karyl Loeb (USA) was the second place finisher with a score of 78.30 and Tasia Tanner (USA) was the third place finisher with a score of 75.52.

“This is the first FIS event for this new facility" explained Bruce Chick FIS Technical Delegate. “The venue has a unique setting where there is skiing right beside the event and it is so accessible to spectators. The jump site is a fitting tribute to Mikey’s memory”. 

The Freestyle NorAm Tour is the second-highest level of competition in the United States and is designed to prepare athletes to compete on the World Cup circuit. Stops include venues in the United States as well as Canada. Winners of the NorAm Tour may earn a spot on the U.S. Ski Team for aerials, as well as personal World Cup starts for the following season.

The 2020 Freestyle Aerials U.S. National Championship brought to you by Visit Finger Lakes and Visit Rochester will take place on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Bristol Mountain. The sold out event will feature fun activities for kids, great food, an outdoor bar, and live music by Rochester’s own Skycoasters. Gates will open to spectators at 4:45pm, the Skycoasters will begin playing at 5pm, and the first round of qualifications will begin at 6:15pm.
