CANANDAIGUA, New York (January 22, 2024) – The Toyota Freestyle Fest, an exciting two-day mogul competition for young freestyle skiers, took place this past weekend at Bristol Mountain. This Eastern Freestyle B Event is part of the Eastern Freestyle’s development program to help kids learn how to compete and develop the fundamentals of mogul skiing technique and tactics on skill appropriate venues.
Athletes from the east coast converged on the picturesque Sunset trail at Bristol Mountain to compete. The competition challenged athletes to conquer a mogul course, where they showcased their skill and expertise through technical turns, aerial maneuvers, and speed. Spectators were treated to exceptional displays of athleticism and talent throughout the event from these young competitors.
"We live in Washington D.C., but we always love coming up to Bristol Mountain for the great snow, competition, and community," said Tyler Gellasch, parent of Kate and Evie from Pennsylvania Freestyle. "Bristol Mountain turns out some great skiers, puts on fun competitions, and creates lifelong friends."
Jackson Chapman, an 11-year-old from Pittsford, NY, secured the male division championship on both Saturday and Sunday. Natalie Leitgeb, a 14-year-old from Pittsford, NY, claimed the female champion title on Saturday and Samantha Neil from Holiday Valley claimed the championship on Sunday.
The Bristol Mountain Freestyle Program has produced many athletes that have gone on to represent the United States and compete on the world stage including Olympic Gold Medalist Chris Lillis, current U.S. Freestyle Ski Team Member Dylan Walczyk, and Olympians Jon Lillis and Morgan Schild. All four of these athletes began their careers competing in this event at Bristol Mountain.
