CANANDAIGUA --- The Finger Lakes Visitors Connection won recognition at the Public Relations Society of America, Rochester Chapter, annual PRism awards held on Thursday, June 18 at the Rochester Museum and Science Center. Titled Christmas on Us, the Facebook campaign ran before the 2014 Christmas holiday and sought to bring visitors into Ontario County during the holiday season. The campaign was a special holiday promotion offered by Ontario County hotels and Finger Lakes Visitors Connection. Visitors staying two nights at any of the participating hotels during Christmas received a third night free as long as one of those nights was actually on Christmas.
Participants helped spread the word through Facebook and the campaign resulted in approximately $25,000 in revenue for local businesses, more than 20 times the initial investment in the campaign.
“It’s very rewarding to have an idea that presents a positive PR challenge and have it come to fruition and be recognized by marketing experts in the area,“ said Valerie Knoblauch, President of Finger Lakes Visitors Connection.
PRism Award winners are selected from a pool of applicants and only those considered at the forefront of excellence in the field of Public Relations are recognized for their efforts. Categories that are focused on include planning/content, creativity/quality, technical excellence, and the results of the campaign with the greatest emphasis on the overall execution of the event.
Other organizations recognized for their achievements include Dixon Schwabl, Martin Flynn LLC, McDougall Communications, Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Rochester Medical Center and Carestream Health.
