There are loads of ways to celebrate dad this Father’s Day in the Finger Lakes, way too many to list all of them, but here are a few personal recommendations to make Father’s Day 2024 one to remember.
For the beer geek dad
If you have a dad who likes to spend his down time pursuing new beers and knows the difference between kettle-soured beers and fruit IPAs or dreams about landing rare vintage beers (whales) your dad may be a beer geek, and Ontario County has so many ways you can feed his geekiness! Brewery Ardennes in Geneva is a Belgian-inspired, award-winning craft brewery housed in a spectacular stone barn where you and dad can enjoy a beer on the patio, in the tasting room or even in a Sheep’s Pen! Other good options include the small but mighty Frequentem Brewing and Peacemaking Brewing Company with its amazing outdoor beer garden, both in Canandaigua. The Father’s Day Family Fun Day at Lincoln Hill Farms combines craft brews, a dress like your dad contest, live music and ‘farm to grill’ food on their family owned farm.
For the sporting dad
From baseball to yoga and golf to lacrosse, no matter how your dad stays active, Dick’s House of Sport in Victor has all the gear as well as interactive space where he can practice his skills. Reserve time on the rock wall, book a golf lesson, rent the golf bay or buy a gift certificate and let dad choose. For the dad whose first love is fishing, Ontario County’s five Finger Lakes are ideal for casting a line for a couple of hours or all day long. Guide services, fishing charters and marinas are all readily available to create the perfect custom Father’s Day fishing adventure. The family run Doc’s Tackle in Honeoye specializes in bait and American made fishing tackle and they are experts on fishing, hunting and outdoor gear. Dad will be sure to tell “fish stories” for years to come after a day out fishing in the Finger Lakes.
For the culture vulture dad
Some dads just cannot get enough of history, music, art and theater so surprise him with a visit to one of Ontario County’s unique museums, a live performance, a painting by a talented local artist, or concert tickets. Put away your cell phones and iPads and take dad on a tour of over 200 years of communication technology at the Antique Wireless Museum in Bloomfield, stroll through the historic Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion State Park while enjoying their annual Father’s Day Car Show or present him with tickets for a top notch musical performance later in the summer at Constellation Brands Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center (CMAC).
For the foodie dad
What dad does not like a good meal? In Ontario County there are so many choices and the meal won’t be simply good, it will be great! Take dad out for a tangy margarita and spicy tamale at Rio Tomatlan in Canandaigua that will make him feel like he’s traveled south of the border if only for an evening. Dad can travel back to memories of hippie days at the vintage chic and funky Roots Cafe in Naples. Enjoy pub grub with a creative attitude and an allegiance to locally sourced ingredients at Kindred Fare in Geneva. Or, go upscale with a euro-centric flair at Warfield’s Restaurant in Clifton Springs. You and your dad can even prepare your own meal with an emphasis on local ingredients at New York Kitchen in their hands-on kitchen. The abundance of exceptional restaurants will make dad wish every day was Father’s Day.
