Spring is finally here—which means it’s time to start easing out of your self-induced wintertime hibernation. What better time than spring to plan that girlfriend getaway you’ve always talked about? But where to begin? So many things to do and so little time. I’m here to make that choice a little easier—if you stick with the four S’s of the Finger Lakes region.
What better excuse for a new outfit or two than a girlfriend getaway? Eastview Mall in Victor, NY, is the perfect place to shop at favorites like J. Crew or Gap and boasts Upstate New York’s closest Anthropologie and Free People. After you’ve shopped ’til you’ve dropped, head across the street to Breathe Yoga for a meditation or yoga class. Feeling hungry? Right down the road, you can finish your day with a flight and some bites at Cork49—and better yet, join them for one of their specialty tastings or live music nights. With a Comfort Inn & Suites right around the corner, you won’t have to travel far to experience the spoils of Upstate New York!
If you’re thinking of having more of a boozy weekend with your girls, make your home base at the 1795 Acorn Inn in Canandaigua. This full-service bed-and-breakfast has breathtaking views of the Finger Lakes area and is close to the expansive Sonnenberg Gardens and, of course, the Canandaigua Wine Trail. With seven wineries to choose from, you and your group are sure to find the perfect space to enjoy your getaway. Don’t forget about the nearby New York Kitchen if you’re hungry! From dinners to cooking classes to wine pairings, you’ll find the dining experience for you. Had enough wine for the day? You could also end your day at Rio Tomatlan with locally sourced and authentic Mexican food—just don’t forget to order one of their classic margaritas!
Into a weekend of pampering? Look no further than Belhurst Castle in Geneva. With two full-service restaurants and Isabella Spa in-house and located right on the water, you won’t even have to leave the property to experience Finger Lakes views. If you’re lucky, you may even catch a bride or two taking pictures on the lawn. But if you’re looking to jump in your car for dinner, FLX Table is the spot to go—just make sure you book in advance! There is one table at this farm-to-table restaurant inspired by a dinner party with no barrier between the table and the kitchen—ensuring an interactive and delicious experience for all.
The Finger Lakes region is also a wonderful place to seek out some adventure during your getaway. Check out Grimes Glen and its beautiful waterfalls and hiking opportunities in Naples. On your one-mile walk, you’ll see two stunning waterfalls, and for the bravest among us, a bit of a climb will let you see a third, as well. After you’ve seen the views from the ground, it’s time to see the views from the sky. Just a short trip away, you can also find Bristol Mountain’s Aerial Adventure Park, complete with ropes courses and zip-lining for your inner adrenaline junkie. If you’re exhausted, you must spend the night at the Naples Hotel, complete with dinner at Little Italy restaurant. Oh, and don’t forget to say hi to Topper—the hotel’s resident ghost!
