Building the Ultimate Finger Lakes Picnic

Thursday, May 21, 2020 9:00 AM by Kendall Knaak

It’s what I like to call the Finger Lakes conundrum. There are so many trails to hike and vistas to see, but there are also some delicious foods to be sampled around the area. How is one able to do everything at once?

Enter picnicking.

Fusing together a rejuvenating hike with Ontario County dining, all while maintaining social distancing regulations is a perfect warm weather day activity, and I am here to make it even easier. So, lace up your sneakers, grab your picnic basket, and let’s hit the trail!

For all of us, Mother’s Day is going to look a bit different this year. You may have been spending extra time with your mom than normal or unable to see her due to distance or because one (or both!) of you are essential workers. No matter how your Mother’s Day might look this year, here are 7 ways to show your mom, or the maternal figure in your life, just how much they mean to you! Many will even offer shipping right to her front door.

Celebrate Easter in the Finger Lakes

Easter is going to look a little bit different this year, but with many Ontario County businesses offering Easter Sunday specials, you can create a fun holiday celebration with you and your loved ones and still maintain ample social distancing. Fire up a Zoom call, dust off your copy of Easter Parade and get your artistic skills ready for some egg dyeing - all with some delicious, authentically Finger Lakes treats!

Golf enthusiasts are pulling out their plaid pants and ironing their polos in anticipation of the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship at Rochester’s renowned Oak Hill Country Club May 21-26! But whether or not you plan to attend the event, there’s no better time to take advantage of the golf-centric destinations throughout the Finger Lakes. In the mood to practice your game while the pros do their thing, and unwind after with some food and drink? We’ve got you covered. Feel like simply watching the action unfold from a comfortable restaurant with some delicious local fare? Not a problem. Put any of these golf courses and accompanying sports-focused eateries at the top of your see-and-tee list for a complete golf-themed experience!

For us in Ontario County, March is about all things maple (I think there might also be a basketball tournament as well? I will check on that). Maple Weekends in March are a great time to spotlight the sugarmakers that keep our pancakes coated with syrup year-round, and the process of turning the sap into syrup.
